Trip to Villa du parc in Annemasse

The contemporary art center Villa du Parc is an exhibition venue dedicated to today’s visual and artistic practices. Steadfastly focused on contemporary artmaking, the Villa du Parc is a hub for artists and the production and creation of art, as well as a center for promoting and transmitting contemporary art to the general public.
The creation of works of art is part of the main concerns of contemporary art that the Villa du Parc actively supports. Financial and technical means, as well as human resources, are put at the disposal of artists so that a work of art can take shape and be shown for the first time to the public in Annemasse and the surrounding region. Invited artists contribute to the vitality of contemporary art and enjoy national and even international exposure.
The Villa du Parc is committed to a program of events that is grounded in a diversity of practices, just as the field of contemporary art (painting, drawing, photography, video, writing, etc.) is. The exhibitions touch on the major questions being raised in the social and artistic fields. Each year a particular theme for the season is addressed, whether esthetic, societal or geographic, making it possible to tackle a notion or field of activity from several points of view and timeframes.
Four to five yearlong shows are mounted each season according to the timeline of the school year to reflect as closely as possible the art-education concerns of our younger audience. Outreach and raising public awareness of contemporary art are part of the very DNA of art centers, just as their mission to support and promote artmaking is. Outreach to school audiences focuses on exhibition visits that reflect visual arts and art history syllabuses, while the center seeks to better connect with the public through information sheets in the galleries and guided visits of each exhibition for the general public or tailored to specific audiences. The Villa du Parc is recognized as the prime venue-resource in terms of contemporary-art outreach for the whole of Haute-Savoie.
Publishing at the Villa du Parc is seen as serving and complementing the singularity of each project. It includes artists’ books, limited editions, brochures and exhibition catalogues.
Committed to playing an active role in the region and to working across disciplines, the Villa du Parc operates within a network of cultural institutions in Annemasse (the contemporary music ensemble Namascae, the Bibliothèques du Genevois, Ciné Actuel) and across the border in Geneva (the Musée d’art modern et contemporain, Mamco, of Geneva; the Fonds d’art contemporain de la Ville et du canton de Genève). The Villa also takes part in professional departmental, regional, national and international networks, and participates in European-cooperation projects.
